FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What surface do you paint on?
I use masonite panels (waterproof hardboard). I ground them with 'Galeria'
acrylic gesso (maybe I shouldn't). This adheres well to the rather smooth
surface of masonite. On top of that I apply 'Pro-art' gesso, which gives the
surface a silky feel and lets me create gradients more easily. (The latter
won't adhere to the masonite panel directly.) Pro-art is a local art store in
Nijmegen (Holland) the owner of which has his own gesso formula.

Occasionally I also use mdf panels. Drawback is that when a (water-based)
acrylic ground is applied on this, it raises the 'grain', ie. the wood fibers
fill with water and swell up. The surface then isn't smooth anymore..
